Two excellent beers are available to Meadowlands during the festival; Conqueror and Laage, brewed by Hepworth’s, award winning brewers in Horsham Sussex, sourced and brewed in Sussex.
Conqueror, a true English stout (and English stout has a history as long or even longer than the Irish black stuff) has been voted by professional brewers and trade representatives as Supreme Champion Keg Beer by the Society of Independent Brewers; truly a peer group vote. You can’t get a better endorsement than this.
Legend has it (well, it’s not a very long legend, and it’s a bit thin on evidence,) that William, in 1066, proclaimed this ale “THE CONQEUROR” and joyously, after several tankards, adopted its name in his title, William the Conqueror. Andy Hepworth likes to believe it: “Why not? The history of brewing in England goes back well before William!”
Conqueror is a good, creamy stout without the bitter aftertaste associated with some other dark ales; full in the mouth and delicate on the palate, it is a beautiful dark ruby in colour, crowned with a perfect head. This is beer at its best. Try it!
Laage is a different style of beer. Classically stored, or ” lagered” for 6 weeks to allow its flavours to develop and mature, it comes in at 4%: a lager you can drink without dropping! Pale, blonde and with a heady, hoppy aroma, it’s a great beer for celebrations. Full in flavour, but not overpowering, this is a lager to quaff and savour.
